How to Edit a Photo to Match a Bold Sky Overlay in Photoshop

Sky Overlays can transform the entire look and mood of your photo. Especially if you use a Sky Overlay that is completely different in color or tone than your original image. When using dramatic sky overlays, you can increase the believability by editing the colors and tones of your photo to make them match the sky you chose. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to edit a photo to match a bold sky overlay in Photoshop.

(Used in this tutorial: Photoshop CC and the Cinematic Skies Collection.)

I really enjoy your tutorials! You do an awesome tut! I have a few years in with PS, but, still always learn something new!
This edit looks amazing! I have used several of your techniques. I was curious, however, about the couple. They have a halo of light around their heads. How would you tackle that, if you didn’t want it like that?
    Thank you kindly!

Hi Su, Thank you so much! That’s a great question! I would use the Soft Light layer and paint very lightly with black around that area to darken it up a bit. You can use Levels or another darkening method if you prefer as well.
